The Owners & Staff
Colleen and Brian McLachlan’s love for dogs began at a very young age. Both had dogs in the house at birth and they developed a love for Golden Retrievers and dogs in general throughout their childhoods. When they met at the University of Illinois in 1999, talk about their beloved Goldens at home in the Chicago suburbs was a common topic.
After moving to Southern California after college, Colleen and Brian had decided their careers as an Industrial Engineer and Project Manager were not going to be lifelong commitments soon after getting married in 2004. When they got their first Golden, Sadie, she proved to be a handful while they worked long hours. Doggie Daycare was a must for her, and over the course of the next two years they positioned themselves to quit their jobs and open Doggie Depot.
Brian and Colleen currently share their home with three Golden Retrievers: Sadie, Callie and Mac. Callie is a rescue through As Good as Gold, the Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois. Mac was a pet store purchase gone wrong for a family who luckily knew people who could get him to the right home. The McLachlans! They are also the proud parents of two boys, Parker (age 4) and Rory (age 7 months). They live right down the street from the Depot and are thrilled to be a part of the Downers Grove Community.
From Colleen and Brian:
“It’s been nearly 10 years since we opened our doors and we absolutely love what we do. Caring for your doggies is a true gift and pleasure. We treat every dog as if it were our own and use that motto when making any and all business decisions. Along with our staff of over 30 employees, most who have worked with us for years, we are able to provide the finest dog care around. As of May 2015, the average length of employment amongst our staff is almost 2 years. We are very proud of this statistic, as the folks behind the scenes are critically important, and know and love your dog as much as we do. “
You’ll see Brian and Colleen behind the desk 6 days a week, and we look forward to seeing you!
