PUPPY KINDERGARTEN

Puppy Kindergarten is an “Open Enrollment” class, which is held every Monday.  The class is comprised of learning units which rotate every six weeks.  Please let us know which Monday you wish to start class on and come for 6 consecutive weeks.

This class is designed to provide socialization for your puppy and lay the foundation for learning basic skills using the positive reinforcement technique known as “clicker training”.  The class is taught by an American Kennel Club approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.  This program stresses responsible ownership and the social and behavioral skills that your puppy needs to thrive.  We will teach you how to train your puppy to focus on you, come when called, sit, calmly accept handling and walk politely on a leash.  Several supervised puppy play-breaks are interspersed throughout each class session, so puppies have plenty of opportunities to interact with each other.  Common behavior problems such as jumping, barking, chewing, nipping and housebreaking will be addressed in each class.  When you attend your 6th class unit, you and your puppy will take the 20 part AKC S.T.A.R. (stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and Responsible Ownership) Puppy Test.  If successful, your puppy will be designated as a S.T.A.R. Puppy by the AKC.  This program is open to all puppies, whether of purebred or mixed breed heritage. Get your puppy started “on the right paw” so that he will be a welcomed addition to your family. Simply pick the Monday on which you wish to start, and come six times in ten weeks.

Pre-requisite: Vaccinated puppies who are between the ages of 8 weeks through 20 weeks old by the first night of class.
Be prepared to meet at 6:30pm with your instructor on your selected first night of class for a short introduction to the use of the “clicker” before class starts at 7:00pm.  Bring your puppy, a bag of tiny, yummy soft treats, a buckle collar or harness and a 6 foot lead.

Time Frame: This class is composed of 6 rotating units- simply let us know your start date and attend for 6 consecutive weeks.

Cost: $135.00

ADOLESCENT PUPPY MANNERS

This class is designed to build on the skills you and your puppy learned in Puppy Kindergarten.  We will add new skills, such as polite approach and greeting, sit for petting, leave it, boundary training at doorways/gates, and introduce heeling, while still providing some puppy play breaks. The adolescent phase of a puppy’s life can be quite challenging for your family.  Let us give you the tools to successfully mold your puppy into an adult that you can be proud of.

Pre-requisite: Vaccinated puppies who have completed Puppy Kindergarten Class at Doggie Depot and be between the ages of 18 weeks and 8 months of age at the start of the first class.  Puppies that have completed a positive reinforcement training class (with socialization) at other facilities, or have been socialized by their owners,  are also welcome to participate.

Time Frame: This 8 week class includes training manual, weekly homework hand-outs, and certificate of completion.

Cost $160.00
